By rebeccaphb @ 1:21 AM :: 575 Views :: 5 Comments :: :: Seattle Area News

Some of us activist poets are taking over the Open Mic segment at the Seattle Poetry Slam this coming Tuesday night, July 3, coverting it into a De Facto Democracy Slam.

This will be at ToST in Fremont, 513 NE 36th Ave. at Fremont Ave., between 8 and 9 PM, with the Featured Poet and the regular Poetry Slam segments to follow.  We are celebrating Independence Day as Americans becoming independent from their evil empire!

You are welcome to attend/perform and let us others know as well!

If interested, please show up just before 8 PM to get signed in or contact Rebecca at rebeccaphb@yahoo.com!

I grew up in Seattle. It is a town that loves and appreciates the arts, first and foremost.
Poetry, music, whatever. Lot of fun in Seattle. I miss it.

Hi Gabriel,

Thank you for your response, wherever you are now.

Yours was the only response I received to my post online; of the hundreds who saw it on this and other activist listserves in Greater Seattle, only two people besides myself showed up -- and this was only to hear me. The activist who posts many videos on this site said he was going to attend to perform and film me as well as be filmed; he did not show or call.

I have received little or no support for any of my initiatives, although I have given much to others'.

Although Seattle does have such a liberal artist/activist reputation, and certainly great natural beauty, it is my observation that it does not have much human community. The famous poet, Robert Bly, when he was here, observed the same thing, and asked me why I thought this was. I told him I thought it was because the majority of self-identified "liberal" Seattleites were earning their living directly or indirectly from the American Empire's war-based economy, and this made for an unconsciously defended, inhospitable, insensitive attitude in the way they treat other people.

The grass of the Emerald City may not be as green as it appears from afar!

Again, thank you for your response!

Sincerely,

Rebecca

Yeah... I noticed that right after I got here from AK. I came down right after the WTO "riots", and I was sitting outside of a starbucks, sipping some chai. Two suits were talking, and I overheard one of them say to the other: "Welcome to the Mecca of multinational corporations".
Blew my original impression of Seattle right out of the water.

I find it strange that so many visit, and so few post comments. What am I, Braveheart? Any way, I have a deep love for Seattle. And I am not talking about the track home police state suburbs that surround it. I am talking about the city of Seattle. It is a very fun city, full of art and beauty. It is truly an Emerald city. I grew up in Lynnwood. But I love Seattle. Many different kinds of people, great night life, clubs like the alligator, and just generally liberal. I am a conservative I think. But I like liberal stuff too. Pearl Jam rocks, so does Heart. And Foo Fighters. Art and poetry should always be supported in coffee shops and venues. And music of all kinds.
Seattle needs to understand that 911 was an inside job.
We the people must take back the power, by any means.

I miss hearing poetry, Rebecca. I am currently in Spearfish SD. Poetry readings can be a nice change from the boob tube. All I can say is just keep doing what you are doing, and turn up the steam. The truth will come out, eventually. If we do something.
